Thieves targeting valuable electronics.

UPDATE: 12/27/23

The original article was foretelling events as they have already been happening. In the U.S. there have been a large number of smash-and-grab robberies happening across the country. Thieves work in groups and often ransack stores using weapons and tools to smash display cases, and windows in order to quickly grab goods and make a run.

Police are often too late on the scene and employees along with customers are left in shock as the crime plays out right in front of them. Police agencies release information to the public so as to not try to stop the would-be thieves, there has been an increase in this type of crime, not only in electronic stores but all retail in general.

Besides surveillance cameras and alarms, stores might need to place strategic GPS tracking devices on products that might be targeted in one of these robberies. Having the necessary data to track the location of the robbery suspects will avoid potential life-threatening activities in the stores and move the danger away from innocent patrons.  Police can then apprehend the suspects in their ending location and be able to recover any goods that were stolen.

In a recent news article from Baja California, Mexico, two alleged thieves held up a mobile cellular store and made off with electronic equipment that consisted of cell phones, tablets, and modems.

The men made off in a getaway car and quickly fled the scene.  Authorities needed help in tracking and finding the men down, it wasn’t until they spoke to the employees that they realized one of the phones that were stolen had a GPS tracking app currently working.   The police were able to track the men down in their place of residence and also found the merchandise that was stolen earlier in the day.
